The episcopal town of Bressanone is situated 660 m above sea level in the beautiful Val d’Isarco. Art, culture and intellectual history play an important role in Bressanone. The South Tyrolean town is more than 1,000 years old – in fact, it’s the oldest town in Tyrol – and was a travel destination of the emperor and magnificent episcopal city.
The only cathedral square in the Alps, the Hofburg Imperial Palace, which also houses the Diocesan Museum, the famous cathedral with cloister, are an absolute delight for culture vultures.
Besides the numerous cultural attractions, the rambling, listed medieval old town, arcades and picturesque streets are well worth exploring.
