Bolzano

Bolzano is a melting pot of cultures and contrasts: Germans and Italians live here side-by-side. The Alpine and Mediterranean way of life, customs and habits are interwoven. This special symbiosis is also reflected in what the town has to offer in terms of culture, art history and gastronomy.

Since 1998, the Museum of Archaeology has been home to Ötzi the Iceman, whose remains are exhibited with the clothing and objects found on him. Ötzi and his artefacts were found quite by accident in 1991 near the Tisa pass in Val Senales. His discovery has triggered important research on the time in which he lived around 5,300 years ago.
